Applications are hereby requested from suitably qualified persons for the following positions in the Journal of Commonwealth Medical Association (JCMA):
- Editor-in-Chief (EIC)/Editor.
- Associate Editors.
- Editorial Assistants/Business Manager
The Journal of Commonwealth Medical Association (JCMA) is a publication of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA), with the mission to offer a scholarly publication platform that advances the objectives of the CMA through promotion of ethical conduct, continuous professional development, research and medical scholarly publishing. Its vision is to be the foremost medical journal that promotes integration of medical research and increased scholarly output across the commonwealth in particular, and the world at large. The journal shall publish on a quarterly or bimonthly basis, multidisciplinary manuscripts that seek to advance medical and health sciences in areas including all aspects of clinical medicine; political, economic, environmental social and technologic subjects related to medical practice. In addition, the journal shall have a strong focus on medical ethics and viewpoints that promote the advancement of medical ethics and the continuing medical education and professional development objectives of CMA.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the position of Editor-in-Chief must be physicians with:
- a minimum of at least 20years post-qualification experience as a physician;
- a minimum of at least 10 years postgraduate qualification experience;
- a minimum of at least 10 years of cognate and verifiable experience in research and publishing, including previous editorial experience and affiliation to editorial bodies.
- good knowledge of English, good communication, ICT and inter-personal skills.
Note:
- The position of Editor-in-Chief of JCMA is Honorary.
- The possession of additional qualifications may be an added advantage.
- The Editor-in-Chief shall be the lead manager and chief operating officer of the journal. He/she shall coordinate the activities of the editorial board and manage the journal on a day to day basis in the pursuit of her goals, mission and vision
Qualifications of Associate Editors (AE):
Applicants for the position of Associate Editors must be physicians with:
- a minimum of at least 15years post-qualification experience as a physician;
- a minimum of at least 8 years postgraduate qualification experience;
- a minimum of at least 8 years of cognate and verifiable experience in research and publishing, including previous editorial experience and affiliation to editorial bodies.
- good knowledge of English, good communication, ICT and inter-personal skills.
Note:
- The position of Associate Editor is Honorary.
- The possession of additional qualifications may be an added advantage.
- Associate Editors shall be members of the editorial board and function in the roles of deputies to assist the Editor-in-Chief/Editor and the journal in pursuit of her goals, mission and vision, amongst other duties.
- Applications for Associate editors from the six (6) regions of the CMA are encouraged, viz: West African; European; Canadian/Caribbean; South East Asian/Australian; Central Asian; and Central, Eastern and Southern African regions.
Qualifications of Editorial Assistants/Business Managers:
Applicants for the post of Editorial Assistant/Business Manager must be graduates with:
- cognate and verifiable experience in journal business promotion/marketing and manuscript editing (content, formatting, grammar, style, fact checking, reference checking, and final copy-editing).
- good knowledge of English, good communication, ICT and inter-personal skills.
Note:
- The remuneration for Editorial Assistants/Business Managers shall be determined by the Editorial board in consort with the CMA Executive.
- The possession of additional qualifications/skills may be an added advantage.
